Some days (a lot of days) I fail to find a beautiful thing. Not that there isn’t one there, it’s just that I forget to try…or just don’t.
I took an extremely impromptu road trip to Mobile, Alabama with a friend this week. Road trips are a big time enjoyment of mine. I love new places and faces and spaces. I also love an excuse to listen to 8+ hours of music non stop.
So much Beyonce.
Anyhoo. Whenever I hear someone talk about Alabama they’re mostly like “oh…there?” Or, “wait…what?”… So I DECIDED….to take those responses as some sort of challenge, I guess.
To find the beautiful things. To try harder. Do you have time to enjoy a meal with your friends? You think you don’t but YOU DO. I promise.
No time to look up from that piece of technology in your hand? Pshh. Easy answer.
So here are a few of the things I found by trying a little harder (and with my iPhone, ironically).
Downtown Mobile had so many great balconies! So. Many.
And this bookstore! Be still my beating heart.
Also getting artsy with some wall art…..art.
And so many other things, you guys! Alabammy whammy serving it up.
Then I mosied my way on down to the little town of Fairhope. A dear Alabamian friend of mine recommended it and I said “Heck yeah I’ll go!”
And these are just a few treasures I found.
I also found Christmas. And a lot of it.
Veggie burger and fries: a juxtaposition.
(and then some Alabama brews)
I also discovered this pier (I think I was the first to discover it).
Get on your bike and go find the beautiful things. They. Are. Everywhere.
Eat a meal with your friends. Look up at some balconies. Buy a book. Stare at a ship. Drink a brew.
Alabammy Whammy helped me do this, and for that, I thank it. I thank that whole hillier, less densely populated Florida like state. Bama!
